The Royal Oak

The Royal Oak in Fore Street, Heavitree was partly re-built after war damage and is one of the few buildings near the City centre to retain it's thatched roof.

The original pub was further up Fore Street and moved to the present site in the 1828. I have seen no information regarding the original building, but would imagine it was amongst the very tight streets of Heavitree around before 1828.

The inn is mentioned in a "for sale" notice in the Exeter Flying post 22nd December 1831.

A so called "Middle Row" was removed from Fore Street in order to widen the road. More information on the Pub Crawl page, select Heavitree.
